Spotlight on GearUp Beneficiary: FutureReady
FutureReady is West Sacramento’s premiere work-based learning intermediary. What does that mean? Well, FutureReady works hard to connect young people to learning opportunities inside and outside of the classroom since 2013 to make West Sacramento youth more career and college ready!
One of FutureReady’s first projects was in 2014 when FutureReady trained nine youth how to create websites, increase the visibility of existing websites online and how to be an entrepreneur. Six of the nine students became certified to work with local businesses through the program, and three students were hired by the West Sacramento Chamber of Commerce to completely redesign the West Sacramento Farmer’s Market Website. They did a fantastic job, earning them $15 an hour, a real-world work experience and evidence to showcase their learning: a brand new website that is still used by the farmers market today. The entire website cost only a fraction of what it would cost a traditional web developer to build and it only took the students 6 weeks to complete!

By supporting the GearUp ride for youth you help FutureReady fund more programs that help young people gain skills inside and outside of the classroom so that they are prepared to succeed in high growth, high wage careers and can excel in college.
