The GearUp Cycle for Youth Bike Ride, a cooperative effort by the cities of Sacramento and West Sacramento, is a scenic ride along and around the beautiful Sacramento River that raises funds for  youth programs in the region.

Don’t miss a single mile! Register now. Registration includes a gourmet lunch, t-shirt, and water bottles for all riders and live music for all at the finish line.

ROUTE INFORMATION

This year we will add a Metric Century (65 miles) to the event. Both the 40 and the 65-mile route starts in West Sacramento and ends in Downtown Sacramento at Cesar Chavez Park. You’ll experience some exhilarating views along the river with three stops for resting and refueling.

EVENT BENEFICIARIES

All proceeds from the GearUp Bike Ride benefit WayUp Sacramento, a wrap around youth support network, and FutureReady: The Mayor’s Trust for Youth in West Sacramento.

Cost

40 Mile – $45.00, includes a GearUp T-shirt, waterbottle, snacks at the rest stops and lunch at the finish. Metric Century (65 mile) – $55.00, includes a GearUp T-shirt, waterbottle, snacks at the rest stops and lunch at the finish. Official team jerseys are available for an additional cost of $75.00.

Registration packets will be available for pick-up on Thursday, September 18, 2014, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., at Mike’s Bikes, 1411 I Street, Sacramento, CA 95814. Contact: Glenda Higgins – 916-501-0501.

Refund Info/Rules

Riders may transfer their registration to another rider.

Age Restrictions

Recommendation: Riders must be 16 years old with signed waiver from a parent or guardian. Cutoff date for pre-registration is September 17, 2014. Minors must ride with an adult.

Route Information

Route information: This is a 40-mile bike ride from West Sacramento to Downtown Sacramento. The bike ride has a total ascent of 269.03 feet and has a maximum elevation of 68.9 feet. The ride begins at West Sacramento’s City Hall and loops around the Sacramento River through Clarksburg and finishes at Cesar Chavez Park in Downtown Sacramento. There will be three rest stops along the way and a final rest stop at Cesar Chavez Park with lunch, music and more.

Start: West Sacramento City Hall 1110 W Capitol Ave, West Sacramento CA 95691

End: Cesar Chavez Plaza Park 9th and J Streets, Sacramento CA 95814

Parking info: Vehicle parking will be available near the START in West Sacramento at City Hall or the Big Lots/Safeway parking lot. Additional vehicle parking will be available adjacent to the FINISH line near Chavez Park in the parking garage at 10th Street between I and J or the Capitol Garage located on 10th Street near L Street. Bike parking at Chavez Park will be available after the ride. All riders are responsible for their own transportation to and from their vehicles to the start and finish. No shuttles will be available to return riders to their vehicles. Please note that the start and finish locations are 1.8 miles apart.

 

Start time / course close time: Registration at West Sacramento City Hall will open at 8:00 AM. The ride will begin at 9:00 AM. The course will close at 2:30 PM.

End of ride party info – Lunch will be provided for all registered riders and available for purchase for non-riders. Each rider will have their choice of lunch from one of several different gourmet food trucks. Live music from local musicians and band.

What people need to bring/cannot bring: Bring water, sunscreen and spare bike supplies. (a support vehicle will be on the course) Do not bring: any weapons, performance enhancing drugs, ear buds, earphones or headphones.
